Full Review:

Waverly Oaks is simply a solid course. The price and drive time from Boston is a bit high, but it is worth checking out. Built on an undulating piece of land, this course has almost no boring holes. The first hole starts you off easy, but after that the challenge level ramps up. Numbers 9, 16 and 17 stand out as challenging but beautiful golf holes. Waverly will also put pressure on your ability to asses the effects of elevation changes on club selection. Nearly every green is at a different elevation from the hitting area. Overall, Waverly Oaks is recommended for anyone willing to pay the higher price for quality.

The Good

  • Gorgeous course with elevated tees, challenging holes, elevation changes and fair risk/reward choices
  • Very well maintained
  • The greens are challenging but fair. They roll true, but some holes have such massive and undulated greens that getting on the wrong tier is almost a guaranteed three put.
  • Range use included with greens fees
  • Additional executive course 9 holes
  • Most trouble is visible from the tee -- no first time surprises
  • Maintains much of the natural vegetation. It has a different feel than the total country club overhaul that is common with many newer courses.

The Bad

  • The price and distance may be an issue
  • Some holes like 9 and 17 have *extremely* punitive penalties for missing the green short. For these and other dangers on the course, aim a good distance from the trouble.
