Full Review:
Pembroke Country Club is a great layout that suffers from poor maintenance. Overall, the course provides solid challenges, good length and a nice variety of holes. The greens are in poor shape and several areas of the course suffer poor drainage.
The Good
- The layout provides tons of challenge. The dogleg par fours on the course often force you to hit a longer second shot than first shot.
- The course is cut through the trees with plenty of space between holes.
- The price is very reasonable.
- Pretty convenient if you live on the south shore.
The Bad
- The greens when I played were in terrible shape. There were bare patches on nearly every green and number 10 had a temporary green in the middle of the season. There were numerous people working on the course, but it doesn't seem to work.
- The course feels like everything is done the cheapest possible way. The yardage markers are spray painted dowels, the cart paths are loose gravel that mixes with the grass in many places. There are numerous other examples.
- Some of the dogleg holes like number 8 don't really give you a safe choice. There is water on both sides of the landing area. The $5 for a yardage book may be worth it to figure out exactly what to hit on these holes.
Other Notes
- When I played, the yardage marker for number 3 was broken down. Based on what I hit and where it landed, the bench on the tee as 210 yards to the middle of the green. Pace off you tee yardage from there.
- On number 5, the best play may be to hit driver over the water on the left. Anything hit to the corner leaves a long approach shot.
- On number 12, It takes a big drive to have a look at the green with your second shot.
