Full Review:
Bill Flynn's Far Corner provides a good golf experience at a fair price. There are several great holes on the course and several bland ones also. If you live north of Boston, it is certainly worth checking out.
The Good
- A few great holes. Numbers 2 and 11 stand out as the best of the bunch with undulations, blind tee shots and the need for some good golf strategy to play them well.
- Close to 495 for easy driving. We actually made it from Boston in 35 minutes which is pretty good time for any Boston area golf excursion.
- 27 holes
- Good space between most holes
The Bad
- No yardage markers on the par three tees despite some deep tees where the real yardage could vary significantly from the reported yardage on the card.
- The course could handle a little more maintenance. The greens were some of the slowest I've ever seen, the bunkers were dirt with some sand and some of the rough was overgrown enough to make finding balls hard even when you saw the ball land.
- Some of the holes (1,8,9) are bland parallel fairways without much imagination. I'd love to see more trees lining the boundaries between the holes to create the illusion of more space..
Other Notes
- The tee shot on number 3 only needs to travel about 180 yards from the white tees. Anything more could end up in the bunkers or a strange stance around the bunkers.
- Aim to cut a little of the corner off on number 5. A drive straight out to the corner can run through and leave a blocked approach shot.
- The fairway on 8 is even more open than it appears from the tee box.
- On number 11, a well struck drive can land on the downslope for a really big role. One member of my foursome managed to do so and was nearly 100 yards ahead of everyone else.
- Everything on number 14 falls to the left. Aim along the right side of the fairway to leave it in the middle.
